5. Adversary: opponent; enemy. Batman
struggled to save Gotham City from the
machinations of his wicked adversary.
6. Adverse: unfavorable;
hostile. The recession had a highly adverse effect.
7. Adversity: poverty;
misfortune. We must learn to meet adversity gracefully.
8. Advert: refer (to). Since
you advert to this matter so frequently, you must regard it as
important.
9. Advocacy: support; active
pleading on behalf of someone or something. His advocacy of
the human rights of
black South Africans is really remarkable.
10. Advocate: urge; plead for. The
abolitionists advocated freedom for the slaves.
