Remember
that the following verbs require an – ing form for a verb in the complement:
Admit,
appreciate, avoid, complete, consider, delay, deny, discuss, enjoy, finish,
keep,
mention, miss, postpone, practice, quit, recall, recommend, regret, risk,
stop, suggest,
tolerate, understand.
Examples:
1. Incorrect:
He enjoyed travel by bus.
Correct:
He enjoyed traveling by bus.
2. Incorrect:
She is considering not to go.
Correct:
She is considering not going.
3. Incorrect:
We enjoyed talk with your father.
Correct:
We enjoyed talking with your father.
4. Incorrect:
He completed the writing his paper this session.
Correct:
He completed writing his paper this session.
5. Incorrect:
I miss to watch the news at 10 pm.
Correct: I
miss watching the news at 10 pm.
6. Incorrect:
Shamim mentioned to go there in his letter.
Correct: Shamim mentioned going there in his letter.
7. Incorrect:
Straus finished written his papers before his 20th birthday.
Correct:
Straus finished writing his papers before his 20th birthday.
8. Incorrect:
Many people have stopped to smoke because of their betterment.
Correct:
Many people have stopped smoking because of their betterment.
